Mila is a domestic helper from the Philippines hired by a family of three in Hong Kong. New to the city, Mila remains hardworking, patient and determined to please her employers despite their fussy and negative attitudes. As tension and distance arise between her employers (husband and wife), Mila becomes greatly concerned over her little master’s suicidal inclination, a situation that touches an old wound from Mila’s past. With the boy’s parents too self-occupied and focused on finding faults and placing blame on others for their own affairs, Mila is left to be the only one aware that the boy needs protection and rescuing from his unstable state...

Mila是一位來自菲律賓的傭工,她剛受聘於香港一個三人家庭,雖然僱主挑剔,但Mila仍然安守本份、勤奮並耐心地照顧僱主一家。僱主關係緊張,夫妻倆都沒察覺到兒子行為出現異樣,只有Mila,因為貼身照顧而焦慮非常。Mila知道小主人最需要的是愛,而她亦確信,自己就是唯一可以拯救他的人…

Eli Marshall

American Eli Marshall moved to China in 2003 on a Fulbright Fellowship. His orchestral works have been performed in seven countries; other works premiered at the German Parliament, South Korea’s Gak-won temple, and the Smithsonian Institution. His original film music for Ann Hui’s The Golden Era featured Wu Tong as soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra; he contributed to the score for Wong Kar-wai’s Ashes of Time — Redux, featuring Yo-Yo Ma. Awarded the Douglas Moore Fellowship for American Opera, ASCAP’s Kaplan Award, and previously artistic director of the Beijing New Music Ensemble, he holds a visiting faculty position at Cornell University, and has resided in Hong Kong since 2011.

美國籍音樂家Eli Marshall(伊淶)於2003年透過傅爾布萊特計畫來到中國。他的管弦樂作品曾在七個國家演出;其他作品也在德國議會、南韓秀峰禪院和史密森尼學會首演。他為許鞍華的《黃金時代》創作電影音樂,由吳彤獨奏以及由倫敦交響樂團演奏;他為王家衛的《東邪西毒(終極版)》所創作的音樂,則由馬友友演繹。他榮獲American Opera道格拉斯·摩爾獎學金、Kaplan Award,以及成為北京新樂團的前藝術總監,他在康乃爾大學擔任客座教授,自2011年起在香港居住。

Neal Goren

Neal Goren is the Founder and Artistic Director and Conductor of Gotham Chamber Opera in New York City. In addition, he is a frequent guest conductor active throughout North American and Europe. Notable appearances include Respighi's La bella dormente nel bosco for the Lincoln Center Festival and Spoleto Festival USA, New York City Opera conducting their revival of The Magic Flute, and with Opera de Nantes and Angers, France for The Turn of the Screw. As Artistic Director of Gotham Chamber Opera, he conducted critically acclaimed productions of Haydn’s Il Mondo della Luna, Mozart's Il sogno di Scipione, Milhaud's Les Malheurs d'Orphée, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas (with period instruments) and more. As a recital accompanist, Neil Goren has collaborated with a number of opera’s leading singers, including Leontyne Price (as her exclusive musical collaborator), Kathleen Battle, Harolyn Blackwell, Thomas Hampson, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Hermann Prey and others. He has been a member of the faculty of the graduate opera department of the Mannes College of Music since 1992, the Accademia Rossiana in Pesaro, Italy and the Harlem School of the Arts. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Richard Tucker Music Foundation from 1991 to 2003.

Candace Chong

Candace Chong (Playwright) is a recipient of the Best Artist Award (Drama) by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (2010). She was selected as one of Hong Kong’s 25 most inspirational and influential women by the South China Morning Post, and she is the winner of five Hong Kong Drama Awards (Best Script). In 2003 she was also awarded Outstanding Young Playwright by the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies. In 2004 she was awarded the Lee Hysan Foundation Fellowship by the Asian Cultural Council, which allowed her to spend 12 months in the United States. Candace’s plays have been translated and presented in different countries. Her latest works include Dr. Sun Yat-sen, on which she worked as librettist and which was presented in the Santa Fe Opera, and the Broadway production Chinglish, on which she worked as a translator.

莊梅岩五度獲頒香港舞台劇獎(最佳劇本獎)。2003年獲香港戲劇協會頒發傑出青年編劇獎。2004年獲亞洲文化協會頒發利希慎獎學金,赴美遊學一年。2010年獲香港藝術發展局頒發年度最佳藝術家獎(戲劇)。2012年獲《南華早報》選為香港廿五位最具影響力的女性之一。作品多次重演並翻譯成英、日、韓、意文搬演;另著有《莊梅岩劇本集》,由天地圖書出版,獲頒第九屆「香港書獎」。


Chan Chu Hei, Stage Director | 導演 陳曙曦

Chan Chu Hei

Chu Hei Chan graduated from the School of Drama, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1991 with a major in Acting and was awarded the Advanced Diploma (Honours) in Performing Arts. After graduation, he furthered his studies in theater at Ecole Philippe Gaulier in London. In 1993, he co-founded Theatre Ensemble and has held various roles including director, playwright, and actor. He founded Horizon Theatre Studio in 2004 and Theatre Horizon in 2006. He established the Hong Kong People's Fringe Association in 2012. He is currently Artistic Director of Theatre Horizon and the Chief Coordinator of Hong Kong People's Fringe Festival. He has performed in major theatrical productions for various professional theater troupes in Hong Kong. He has won the best actor and twice the best director for the Hong Kong Drama Awards, and also twice the best director for the Hong Kong Theatre Libre. His recent directed works are The Black and the Blue of a Man (North-East Village Edition), Century-Old Dreams of a Fishing Harbour Trilogy, The Garden Party (North-East Village Version), The Blue Bird, The Lu-Tings, Skylight and The Massage King.

陳曙曦,1991年畢業於香港演藝學院戲劇學院,主修表演,獲頒演藝深造文憑(優異)。畢業後再赴當時在英國的 Philippe Gaulier 學院進修戲劇。1993年參與創辦「劇場組合」,曾擔任創作、導演、編寫及演出多個角色,於2004年創辦天邊外演藝教室,2006年創立天邊外劇場。2012年創立香港藝穗民化協會。現為天邊外劇場藝術總監,以及香港藝穗民化節發起人及總統籌。曾為香港多個專業劇團演出重點劇目,獲香港舞台劇獎最佳男主角﹑兩次獲最佳導演﹑及兩次獲香港小劇場獎最佳導演。近期導演作品《李逵的藍與黑》(東北村落版)、《漁港夢百年》系列、《花園宴會》(東北村落版)、《青鳥》、《盧亭》,《前度》、及《大汗推拿》。


Amanda Li, Soprano | 女高音 李蕙妍 (Ma’am)

Amanda Li

Soprano Amanda Li, from Hong Kong, made her debut as Bao chai in Bright Sheng’s Dream of the Red Chamber at the Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2017. She sang with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Clark Rundell and was seen in the group art show Il Tempo del Postino at Manchester Opera House and Art Basel Festival in Switzerland. Amanda is pursuing her doctoral degree at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and studied at Royal Holloway, the University of London as well as the Royal Northern College of Music.

香港女高音李蕙妍於2017年香港藝術節的歌劇《紅樓夢》中飾演寶釵一角。李氏曾在Clark Rundell的指揮下與皇家利物浦愛樂樂團演出,並於曼徹斯特國際音樂節上獻藝,甚獲好評。此項目後於瑞士巴塞爾藝術節中載譽重演。她曾在倫敦大學、皇家哈洛威學院以及皇家北方音樂學院學習,並現於美國印第安納大學修讀聲樂博士。

Stefanie Quintin graduated with a degree in Vocal Pedagogy and Vocal Performance from the University of the Philippines College of Music under the tutelage of Professor Emerita Fides Cuyugan-Asensio and Rica Nepomuceno. Quintin’s repertoire ranges from Renaissance music to premiere performances of new music. She is a member of the Ripieno Ensemble — a group of musicians dedicated to the promotion and performance of New Music in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia. She is a recipient of the PGMA Presidential award for culture and the arts and is a Delphic Lyra awardee at the 3rd International Junior Delphic Games. Her opera credits included: Cimarosa's Il Matrimonio Segreto, Mozart’s Die Zauberflote, Donizetti's L’Elisir D'amore,v. Bellini's La Sonnambula, Purcell’s Fairy Queen, and Menotti’s A Hand of Bridge.

Joanne Shao, Soprano | 女高音 邵樂敏 (Boy | Rosa)

Joanne Shao

Making her debut as the title role of Massenet’s Cendrillon in New York Lyric Opera Theatre, Joanne Shao is a Hong Kong-born soprano graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She is the recipient of the Ms. Barbara Fei Vocal Scholarship, The Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir Scholarship and the Michael Rippon Memorial Scholarship. She has won the First Prize of Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition and made her debut at Carnegie Hall. Other major roles in opera she has performed include Juliette in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Sophie in Massenet’s Werther, Gianetta in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’Amore,Papagena in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Blonde in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

邵樂敏畢業於香港演藝學院聲樂系,師隨資深歌唱家江樺女士、阮妙芬女士及梁頌儀女士。亦先後隨名歌唱家龔冬健先生、黃日珩先生、郭婉玲女士學習聲樂,並於留美期間獲大都會歌劇院歌唱家Harolynn Blackwell指導。邵氏曾獲費明儀女士聲樂獎學金、香港威爾斯男聲合唱團獎學金及聶明康紀念獎學金的贊助,並於年前獲得亞歷山大國際聲樂比賽一等獎,贏得了在紐約卡內基大廳的演出機會。邵氏曾演唱的歌劇角色包括剛在紐約歌劇院的夏季演出擔任《灰姑娘》一角,其他角色包括《維特》中的蘇菲、《愛情靈藥》中的珍內塔、《魔笛》中的帕帕基娜、《女人皆如此》中的黛絲賓娜、《費加洛的婚禮》中的蘇姍娜以及《後宮誘逃》中的布朗德。

"An imposing bass-baritone," as reviewed by Opera News, Joseph Beutel, is often praised for his "deep well-rounded tone," and overall richness of voice and versatility on stage. He portrayed the roles of the Duke and Judge in Powder Her Face by Thomas Adès at Skylight Music Theatre in Milwaukee, where he "burned up the stage... singing with gorgeous tone in a huge vocal range and with an actor's command of language." Other recent engagements have included singing with Loft Opera’s production of Tosca where he played Angelotti, Bedron and the portrait Alexandre in Martinu's Comedy on the Bridge and Alexandre Bis with Gotham Chamber Opera; Lamoral in Santa Fe Opera's production of Arabella, Sulpice in La fille du regiment with Fargo-Moorhead Opera; Sam in Un ballo in maschera with Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras; der Tod in Der Kaiser von Atlantis with Opera Moderne in Vienna; Nourabad in Les pêcheurs de perles with Baltimore Concert Opera and Opera Delaware; and the high priest of Baal in Nabucco with Opera Naples. He originated the role of the British Major in the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Silent Night by Kevin Puts premiered at Minnesota Opera. Beutel was the winner of a Sullivan Foundation Career Development Award in 2011.
