“Chinese Dragon and Snake Connection – The Snake in the Chinese and Foreign Cultures”
In Chinese tradition, the snake is often affectionately referred to as a “little dragon.” This exhibition extends the themes of our Opening Special Exhibition, “The Dragon and Phoenix Offer Auspiciousness,” by delving into the symbolic relationship between dragons and snakes. It features a fascinating array of snake-related artifacts from both Chinese and global cultures, highlighting the snake’s cultural significance across time and geography.
This exhibition also celebrates the Chinese Year of the Snake, offering visitors a deeper understanding of how this creature has been revered, represented, and interpreted throughout history.
Traces of Travelling the Mountains and Seas by artist Simon Yung
Contemporary ink artist Simon Yung presents a compelling series of new works inspired by the Shanhai Jing (The Classic of Mountains and Seas), a seminal text of Chinese mythology and geography.
Through his unique fusion of traditional ink techniques and modern artistic expression, Yung reimagines ancient myths and landscapes, inviting viewers to reflect on the enduring relevance of these stories in today’s world.
This exhibition illustrates how classical narratives can be reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, bridging the gap between past and present.
