More in this series

As part of The LOVE Long: Robert Indiana and Asia educational program series, Asia Society Hong Kong Center is delighted to screen the 1996 resident classic, Comrades: Almost a Love Story. Presented by moonlight at the ASHK Lippo Amphitheater, the screening will kick off with the enjoyment of a specially designed cocktail to be shared amongst friends and loved ones in recognition of the Yuan Xiao Lantern Festival.
This bittersweet romantic drama of two people torn between love for each other and duty to the others who love them sweeps from mainland China to vibrant Hong Kong to New York as two lives inexorably intertwine.
Wide-eyed Xiao-Jun cannot even speak Cantonese when he arrives in Hong Kong to earn enough money to marry his fiancée. His relationship with Li Chiao, an ambitious migrant from Guangzhou, begins out of mutual need and develops into friendship ... then love. But Xiao-Jun's loyalty to his betrothed and Li Chiao's desire for financial success keep the lovers apart as they follow their dreams in freewheeling Hong Kong.
