The archeological mysteries buried in the City of David have captivated researchers for the last 150 years. Extensive excavations have taken place - many still currently underway - helping to unlock the mysteries of this ancient city. Renewed interest was sparked in 1995, when archeologists discovered remnants of a very large fortress surrounding the Gihon Spring, leading to a radical change in the understanding of the ancient city of Jerusalem. Other excavations followed resulting in significant finds including the Givati Parking Lot which marks the largest archeological excavation being conducted in Jerusalem today and continues to uncover different layers of the city's life from the Middle Ages and tracing all the way back to ancient times. During their discussion Yehuda Maly, Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of the City of David Foundation and Doron Spielman, Vice President of the City of David Foundation will open up the archeological world of the Ancient City of David bringing together the newest archeological discoveries from the site a fascinating and informative picture of Ancient Jerusalem will be revealed.
Rabbi Yehuda Maly is Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of the City of David Foundation, and one of the key people responsible for the dramatic transformation of the City of David in recent years. In addition to the City of David, Rabbi Maly serves as a senior strategic consultant to the Educational Ministry for the development of the educational platform of the State of Israel. His career in education in both the public and private spheres has spanned decades. He has, and continues to, serve as a teacher, lecturer, educational director and creative director at reputable institutions across Israel.
Dr. Doron Spielman is Vice President of the City of David Foundation. Since joining the foundation in 2002, Dr. Spielman has been a driving force behind the transformation of the City of David National Park, once a small neglected hilltop outside Jerusalem’s Old City walls, into one of the world’s most prominent archeological and tourist sites, hosting more than half a million visitors annually. Dr. Spielman serves in the Israeli Defense Forces as a military spokesperson to the foreign press, where he currently holds the rank of Major (Res). Dr. Spielman is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
