Celebrate Art Museum Day at Asia Society Hong Kong Center
VIEW EVENT DETAILSAsia Society Gallery (Former Magazine A) in Hong Kong will offer free admission to all visitors on Friday, May 18 as part of the Association of Art Museum Directors’ (AAMD) Art Museum Day, which coincides with International Museum Day.
From 11.00 am to 5.00 pm, Asia Society Gallery offers you a complimentary access to our inaugural exhibition- Transforming Minds: Buddhism in Art. Transforming Minds presents sublimely beautiful and deeply spiritual works of art, encompassing traditional and contemporary masterpieces from a mix of Asian cultures. This exhibition is a rare opportunity to see examples of cultural adaptations and collective responses to Buddhism in pre-modern times, as well as individualized responses to Buddhism in contemporary artistic practice — a fitting subject as the shared futures of Asia and the United States continue to evolve.
To celebrate International Museum Day, the first 300 gallery visitors will also receive Asia Society's special edition pins.
Free docent tours will be available in English at 11.30am and in Cantonese at 2.30pm.
“AAMD believes that art should be accessible and relevant to all, and we are so pleased that Asia Society Museum is joining with us and the global community of museums to celebrate the role museums play in their communities and to encourage visitors to share their museum experiences,” said Chris Anagnos, Executive Director of AAMD.
Visitors are encouraged to share their Art Museum Day experiences via social media using the hashtag #ArtMuseumDay. Find the Asia Society Hong Kong Center on Facebook and Twitter.
