Bat Nights @ ASHK Ecological Walk

VIEW EVENT DETAILS

Bat Cave: Treasures of the Day and Creatures of the Night Educational Offerings

7:00-9:00pm (7:00-7:30pm gallery visit)
Suitable for ages 10 and above (children aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult)
Conducted in English and Cantonese
Online Registration required. Limited capacity, first-come first-served.

Bats have long been a popular motif in Chinese arts and crafts due to “bat” and “good fortune and happiness” sharing the same sound in Chinese. To learn more about this mysterious night animal and the myths and legends that have followed it for generations, ASHK will host a series of “Bat Nights @ ASHK” during the course of the exhibition.

Ecological Walk

ASHK will host an evening ecological walk through our center to search for the elusive resident fruit bat and other night animals in the neighborhood. The ecological walk will be led by professionals from Fauna Conservation Department of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden. During the walk, participants will learn about the mysterious behavior of bats and other wild night animals. Participants will also have the chance to get hands-on with the equipment used in searching for these creatures of the night. In addition to this nocturnal adventure, this program will also feature a guided visit of the exhibition as well as educational activities that marry both the artistic and ecological features of bats.

The Fauna Conservation Department was established in 1994 when KFBG changed the focus of its work from agricultural aid to sustainable living, environmental education and conservation. Influenced by the need to tackle local conservation issues and to support the Hong Kong Government combat the illegal trade in endangered animals, the Wild Animal Rescue Centre was established under the department. Live educational displays featuring native wildlife and exotic animals were also set up. The departmental aim is “to promote the conservation of animals and their habitats in Hong Kong and the region”.
