Bat Art @ASHK
As the Chinese characters for “bat” and “blessing” share the same sound, the bat motif often appeared on Chinese objects ranging from court to folk art. Led by local artists or craft masters, Bat Art @ASHK sessions will give audience hands-on opportunities to experience, and re-interpret traditional Chinese culture with a contemporary twist.

Traditional Embroidery Button and Loop Making Workshop
Auspicious patterns are commonly found in traditional Chinese clothing, often appearing as embroidery buttons and loops. The buttons and loops were and still are commonly used as decoration on Qipao, and other types of Chinese clothing, representing blessings and good fortune. Led by craft masters, participants of the workshop will learn how to create simple embroidery buttons applicable to contemporary use.

Workshop Craft Masters

Ms. PO Ming Wah is a master of embroidery button making with over 40 years of experience. Some of her craft works are collected by the Hong Kong Museum of History.

Ms. KAN Ching Ching is a master of Qipao making. She believes traditional Chinese clothing carries Chinese culture and wisdom through objects. She has been a resident artist at HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity to promote the understanding of traditional Chinese art.
