After weeks of violent protests against her government, on August 5 Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled, ending 15 years of rule. Under the temporary leadership of an interim government headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh faces an uncertain future. What brought about the protests and the fall of Hasina’s government? How will Bangladesh attempt to bring Hasina to justice and reconcile with her supporters? How will these changes shape the geopolitics of South Asia and the balance of power between India and China? What can the world expect for the future of Bangladesh’s government and society?
