Professor Lin is responsible for guiding the World Bank's intellectual leadership and plays a key role in shaping the economic research agenda of the institution. Prior to his appointment at The World Bank, Professor Lin was, for 15 years, Professor and Founding Director of the China Centre for Economic Research at Peking University. An influential figure in China, he has also been a deputy of the National People's Congress and Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. Internationally, he has served on various committees, including the United Nations Millennium Task Force on Hunger and the National Committee on US-China Relations. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago and is the author of 18 books, including The China Miracle: Development Strategy and Economic Reform (published in seven languages). He is the recipient of several awards including the Sun Yefang Prize, the highest honor for economists in China.
