Walk along the five-kilometre Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail for a look at 21 declared monuments. From bridges to aqueducts, arches to dams, you can get a good look at the engineering and architectural styles dating back over a century. This relatively complex water supply system was constructed as part of the Tai Tam Scheme and Tai Tam Tuk Scheme between 1883 and 1917 in order to cater for the ever-increasing demand for water, which allowed for urbanisation of the eastern side of Hong Kong Island. Tour guide from the Water Supplies Department will be leading the members in this walk.
Transport is included to bring the participants from the gathering point to the Tai Tam Waterworks. All participants are to join the trail from the gathering point at Wanchai MTR Station Exit B1. The duration of the walking is approximately 2 hours, depending on the speed of the other participants.
Other points to note:
- Participants must be at least 8 years old on the activity day.
- For safety reasons, those with impaired mobility, aided by others or walking sticks or wheelchair-bound, or children in prams or carried in arms are not allowed to participate in the visits.
- Participants should wear clothing that are suitable for hiking and bring adequate drinking water, mosquito repellent, sunblock and rain gears.
