Education Offerings for Schools and Educators – Summer 2014

HONG KONG, June 18, 2014 - Art education is imperative in cultivating the aesthetics and cultural sense of the younger generation. A specially designed gallery tour to the It Begins with Metamorphosis: Xu Bing exhibition was held on June 14 (Saturday), of which more than 30 secondary school teachers were invited to share and observe the techniques of broadening students’ horizons in art appreciation. To better equip teachers and educators in bringing students to the exhibition, a bilingual Teacher Resource Guide and five sets of interactive art cards have been designed to deepen engagement and prompt critical thinking. In the tour, not only did teachers and educators learnt about the exhibits, but also got to try their hands on the interactive gallery activities that the education team in ASHK designed. Throughout the program, there were intellectual discussions among the participants on how to encourage students’ interactions in art appreciation. The program encourages creativity and flexibility in art appreciation, and multiple education resources were available to facilitate the learning experience.

As youth education and engagement are core to Asia Society Hong Kong Center, an array of tailored education programs is offered to schools and organizations in Summer 2014, aiming to foster art education:
- Light and Shadows – Caravaggio • The Italian Baroque Master Student Drawing Competition (Submission open until July 27, 2014)
- Italian Cultural Pioneer in China – Matteo Ricci Adventure Workshops (Now till August 31, 2014)
