Program Description
Shu Ren International School is an independent school located in Berkeley, California. It is the first Mandarin immersion, International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) school in the state. Enrollment for students 2 years old to Grade 6 is intentionally small, with approximately 110 students school-wide and a teacher/student ratio of 1 to 8. The IBPYP is a rigorous, inquiry-based, transdisciplinary framework of learning that is powered by a child’s natural curiosity. Students are guided by teachers to actively discover their strengths, explore new concepts, develop strong practical and academic skills, and experience their lessons within and outside of the traditional classroom environment. Students are not just high academic achievers; they are active participants in a complex and rich world of international culture and communication. Shu Ren students learn to ask important questions, perform research, and present their findings in Chinese and English.
Each day at Shu Ren International School is a celebration of the unique perspectives and experiences of the families and students who strive to go beyond the ordinary and create positive change in the world.
Early Childhood Program
The Early Childhood program is 100% Mandarin immersionfor students ages 2–5 years old and also follows the International Baccalaureate framework of learning. Students are immersed in a language-rich, inquiry-and play-based learning environment that fosters their critical thinking and creativity skills and harnesses the power of curiosity to drive their experiences. Students learn in “Units of Inquiry,” a transdisciplinary approach to understanding the world around them.
