Infographic Design: The Challenges of Xenophobia

Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities

Infographic Design

What is an Infographic focused on a global issue?

An infographic (information graphic) is a representation of information in a graphic format designed to make the data easily understandable at a glance. They include a collection of imagery, charts, and minimal text that gives an easy-to-understand overview of a topic. When infographics are used to communicate global issues, they give viewers a good overview of the issue because of the striking, engaging visuals that are used to communicate information quickly and clearly.

Designing an infographic provides students with opportunities to express their thoughts, learnings, and inquiries in a visual format. Through the design of infographics, students learn critical technical skills that are needed in the world of work today.

UN SDG 10

Now, how do I make this project authentic?

Xenophobia is defined as the dislike or prejudice against people from other countries. Understanding the root causes of xenophobia and ways in which individuals have the power to stop it is a critical social-emotional learning competency (SEL). SEL skills are just as important to student development as is mastery of technological and core disciplines skills.

According to The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning(CASEL), there are five facets to SEL, also known as emotional intelligence.

  1. Self-awareness
  2. Self-management
  3. Social awareness
  4. Relationship skills
  5. Responsible decision-making

Social-emotional skills are a driver to global competence and should be a critical component of any global virtual project.

Here is an example.
