TEQ Online

2020 has been a challenging year for educators in the United States. In the current COVID-19 crisis, regular classrooms are changed and normal teaching methods have been disrupted. However, Chinese language teachers have quickly responded and risen to these challenges by continuing their teaching online to provide a different but quality learning experience to students.
To extend our admiration and support to the K-12 Chinese teachers, Asia Society is starting a special edition—TEQ Online. Extending from the original TEQ Instructional Videos for Chinese Language Teaching, which aims to share best practices in the field, the TEQ Online intends to highlight the tremendous efforts and innovations made by Chinese language teachers and also provide a platform for collegial support and learning as we continue to face the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here we would like to invite K-12 Chinese language teachers to contribute to this special edition of TEQ Online by sharing video clips of the activities in your virtual classrooms. Your experience and stories will mean a lot to the field at this challenging time.
Requirements
You will self-record your online teaching activities using digital software such as Zoom and Google Meet. Each video clip should be about 10 minutes and demonstrate how you adapt teaching to provide effective and interactive learning in K-12 virtual classrooms. We expect the TEQ Online video is a video recording of an actual online Chinese language class on Zoom, where the audience can clearly see the interactions between teachers and students and their faces through watching the video recordings.
Some sample videos might be:
- an example showing how to provide comprehensible input through the camera
- an example of interactive online teaching and learning
- an activity that shows pair/group work in virtual classrooms
- a strategy for student engagement in online learning
- a strategy for managing the virtual classroom
- a short activity for teaching reading or writing online
- a strategy for feasible online assessment
