May Shen’s 10th-11th Grade Intermediate-Low Chinese Class — 'Chinese New Year'

TEQ Instructional Videos for Chinese Language Teachers

Chinese language teacher May Shen, who teaches at the Ursuline Academy of Dallas, Texas, presented the information effectively and maximized the learning.

For guidance on how to use these materials, please see How to Use the TEQ Series: Instructional Videos for Chinese Language Teachers.

Classroom Video

In this Chinese class, May Shen’s 10th -11th graders from the Ursuline Academy of Dallas, Texas, are learning the unit "Chinese New Year". This lesson focuses on the eve and the first day of Chinese New Year.

In this video, you can see how the teacher has presented the information effectively and maximized the learning. The teacher used a zooming-in strategy to go from a whole-piece narration to individual new words instead of teaching the new words one by one without any context. In order to reinforce the learning and engage the students, the teacher has designed some tasks and activities that require students to integrate speaking and reading and use the new language items.

Watch Chinese language teacher May Shen guided her students to learn language and culture about Chinese New Year.

Your comments and feedback are always highly appreciated. Please tell us your thoughts after you watch these videos.
