Jessica Tan’s 11th Grade Intermediate Low-Mid Chinese Class — 'Get to Know Famous People in China'

TEQ Instructional Videos for Chinese Language Teachers

To extend our admiration and support to the K-12 Chinese teachers, Asia Society is starting a special edition—TEQ Online, which intends to highlight the tremendous efforts and innovations in online teaching made by Chinese language teachers as we continue to face the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For guidance on how to use these materials, please see How to Use the TEQ Series: Instructional Videos for Chinese Language Teachers.

Are you interested in joining the TEQ Online program and being featured in the TEQ series? Please check out more details and requirements here.

Virtual Classroom Video

This online activity was taken from Jessica Tan’s Chinese class at Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School in New York. The TEQ Online video has nine 11th graders learning Chinese in a remote learning setting.

Using Zoom and Google Slides, Miss Tan conducted this online activity for the students to apply what they had learned about famous Chinese people. In this activity, the students were challenged to take an active role in language application. They were busy reading to obtain information, writing to share what they had read, and talking to express themselves freely. Zoom and Google Slides have made good teaching and learning possible in online classrooms.

Your comments and feedback are always highly appreciated. Please tell us your thoughts after you watch these videos.
