Assessments Used In Schools

Chinese Immersion Program, Minnetonka Public Schools, Minnesota
Minnetonka Public Schools
, whose Chinese immersion program began in 2007, now have classes for grades K–8. The district uses a range of assessment instruments to measure student learning outcomes, which are also designed to increase student engagement and offer authentic instruction and assessment experiences. They include a set of integrated performance assessments that are aligned with ACTFL’s Performance and Proficiency Guidelines. In this presentation you will find out about the assessments used, the challenges faced, and lessons learned.

Global Village Academy, Colorado
The Global Village Academy, a set of international charter schools in Colorado, uses this oral language assessment provided as a placement tool. It is used as an informal screening for students entering the immersion program after first grade and entering second through fifth grades. Students are usually not allowed to enter the program unless they possess a level of proficiency in Chinese that is benchmarked by grade.
