Video | Talking Diversity in Politics
Can we achieve diversity in all levels of Australian politics and public life?
Last week Asia Society Australia and DAWN hosted a special panel discussion with 2016 Australian of the Year, David Morrison and NSW Treasurer the Hon Gladys Berejiklian MP and NSW Shadow Minister for Education Jihad Dib MP to talk diversity in all levels of Australian politics and public life.
Moderated by ABC journalist Kumi Taguchi and hosted by PwC, the event brought together over 50 business, academia and cultural leaders to question why we are not seeing more diverstiy in Australian politics. The panelists drew from personal experience, giving candid answers and urging the audience to become changemakers and to break through the 'brickwall' barriers that are standing in the way of a more diverse political landscape.
Questions included:
- What are the barriers for people of diverse background entering into Australian politics and public service?
- What are the implications for Australian society and economy?
- What can individuals and institutions do to encourage more diversity in political engagement?
