[WEBCAST] Executive Briefing | Trade and the Pandemic with H.E. Frances Lisson PSM, Australian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the WTO
VIEW EVENT DETAILSHow do we adapt to meet the demands of a changing and increasingly politicised global trade order?
Asia Society Australia warmly invites you to a private briefing with H.E. Frances Lisson PSM, Australian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the WTO.
While COVID-19 unleashed an unprecedented public health crisis, the pandemic also put our multilateral economic system under threat and has exacerbated existing trade tensions. The last few months have seen an increase of trade restrictions as governments prioritise the recovery of their domestic economies. The WTO has projected that global trade will decline by between 13 and 32 per cent this year. From the need to diversify supply chains to new regional agreements and the intensified role of digital trade, COVID-19 has impacted global trade architecture and multilateral bodies like the WTO will need to adapt to this new world order to stay relevant.
Join us as we discuss all this, plus ongoing US-China trade tensions, the development of alternative dispute settlement mechanisms at the WTO, and the ways in which Australia will be impacted.
Date: Tuesday 23 June 2020
Time: 4:00 - 4:45 p.m.
