Asia Society Australia is pleased to host an exclusive member-only Executive Briefing with Mimi Zou and Lucinda Longcroft, two leading experts on emerging regulatory policy issues around AI.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly developed over the past decade, profoundly reshaping industry and society and the way business is done. As AI continues to advance, the role of AI governance has become of significant importance. How do emerging AI-related regulations around the world affect the operation, business, and implementation of AI? What do companies need to know to manage relevant risks and identify opportunities involving the responsible deployment of AI technologies? Understanding the global AI ecosystem, particularly the dynamics between major powers, is also increasingly important.
Join us to hear leading IP lawyer Lucinda Longcroft and AI governance expert Mimi Zou address these questions and provide an assessment of regulatory trends and the roles of governments and industry in shaping the future of AI. About our speakers

Prof. Mimi Zou, Head of School – Law & Justice, University of New South Wales (UNSW)
Professor Mimi Zou is a leading global expert in law and innovation, currently based at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) with a Visiting Fellowship at the University of Oxford Martin School. She is internationally renowned for her work in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) governance, financial, regulatory and legal technology, and technology policy and diplomacy. She received a Global Australian Award in 2024 for her significant research and policy contributions to these fields, including as an expert advisor to the G7, World Economic Forum and the UK Government's responsible technology adoption body.
Prior to joining UNSW, Professor Zou held various senior academic positions at top institutions worldwide, including the University of Oxford, where she was appointed to the first post in Chinese law and founded Oxford's first lawtech innovation lab and a regtech spinout.
Professor Zou actively collaborates with industry, government bodies, and civil society organizations to advance responsible AI practices and enhance ethical standards in technology use. Her insights are regularly sought by global media, and she frequently speaks at prestigious conferences around the world. A committed educator, Professor Zou actively mentors the next generation of legal innovators, fostering critical thinking and interdisciplinary knowledge in her students.

Lucinda Longcroft, Senior international lawyer and government affairs executive
Lucinda is a senior international lawyer and manager with a strong track record of leadership, strategic planning and advice, providing sound policy analysis and guidance, and conducting negotiations in complex and sensitive fields of law and policy. Her areas of legal expertise include intellectual property, innovation, copyright and creative industries, media and the digital environment, emerging technologies, international law and normative/regulatory development at national and international levels. She practised in strategic policy development on complex issues of current social focus including sexual harassment and environmental sustainability management.
She is experienced at working with and advising the highest levels of senior executives, and creating networks with industry and government leaders in diverse sectors. She is an effective communicator and is client-oriented and skilled at identifying the legal and strategic needs of different stakeholders, and she understands how to navigate in a rapidly-changing environment. Her approach is forward-thinking, flexible, energised and positive.
She has served as Associate to the Hon. Justice Daryl Davies in the Federal Court of Australia, and an Associate to Judge Macdonald of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. She also practiced as an attorney with the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, with the Legal Office of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and in the preparation of the Report on Designs Law for the Australian Law Reform Commission.
She is the former Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Australia and New Zealand at Google.
