More about Chef Wendy Zeng and Drizzle:

Chef Wendy Zeng is a dynamic presence in the Los Angeles culinary scene, celebrated for her deep connection to Sichuan cuisine and Chinese culture. Born in Chengdu, the heart of Sichuan province, Wendy was raised in the bold, fiery flavors and time-honored techniques and sourcing principles of her homeland. From a young age, she learned the art of balance in Sichuan cooking, where heat, aroma, and texture come together in perfect harmony. These formative experiences shaped her culinary identity and ignited her passion for sharing the rich heritage of Chinese diaspora cuisine with the world.
At age 10, Wendy moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she discovered the soulful traditions of Southern cooking. She quickly recognized that, like Sichuan cuisine, Southern food is rooted in honoring family traditions and the comfort of shared meals. This cross-cultural journey influenced her approach to cooking, blending the boldness of Sichuan flavors with the warmth and heart of Southern culinary traditions.
Now based in Los Angeles, Wendy is the founder of Drizzle, a catering company that celebrates the diverse flavors of Asian cuisines, with a special focus on Sichuan’s signature spice and complexity. Her cooking draws on her rich cultural heritage, reinterpreting classic Chinese dishes with a modern twist while staying true to the deep traditions of her roots.
Wendy also hosts weekly gatherings at her urban garden oasis, “The Secret Garden Club,” collaborating with chefs and artists from around the world to celebrate the ever-evolving nature of diasporic immigrant cuisine and live-fire cooking. She sources organic, regeneratively grown vegetables from her garden, many of which are Asian varietals, to create farm-to-table versions of classic Asian offerings.
In addition to her catering work, Wendy co-founded MoguMagu, an AAPI food, culture, and plant medicine collective that connects Asian professionals and creatives in music, hospitality, and cannabis. Through the historical exploration of the legendary female Daoist deity Magu, who symbolizes longevity and immortality, Wendy and her co-host Christina Wong shed light on Magu’s significance and how hemp, first discovered in China, was used for healing throughout ancient Asia.
Wendy’s keen culinary skills earned her a victory on *Chopped 420*, a cannabis spin-off of the popular *Chopped* competition series. In August 2021, she launched “Chili Party,” her signature line of gourmet Sichuan chili oil, which played a key role in her success on the show. Wendy has also brought her Sichuan flavors on the big screen when she competed on the Food Network show Beat Bobby Flay. One of the dinner courses features the dish she used to compete on the show.
