Asia Society Southern California Celebrates Visionaries of Asian Descent at 2024 Annual Gala
LOS ANGELES; May 17, 2024 — Asia Society Southern California (ASSC) will host their 2024 Annual Gala on May 19, 2024, at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. The event is a celebration which is dedicated to building bridges of understanding and cooperation between Asia and the United States.
This year’s 2024 Annual Gala continues to highlight the achievements of ASSC and its partners in bringing together a diverse group of leaders from the worlds of art, music, business, real estate, and medicine. The gala will host a cocktail reception followed by dinner, and a program that includes honorees, and special performances. The honors for the evening will include, Art Visionary, Music Visionary, Business Visionary, Real Estate Visionary, and Medical Visionary, along with two sports-related tributes to the Olympic Movement and Japanese Players of the L.A. Dodgers, dovetailing with Asia Society’s “Year of Japan.”
"The 2024 Gala's bevy of all-star honorees is truly transcendent,” said ASSC Gala Chair Brian Treiger. “All are emblematic of ASSC's paramount mission of bridge building that spans continents, while impacting their respective communities."
The 2024 honorees are:
Ray Chen – This year’s Music Visionary honor goes to violinist and Co-Founder of Tonic for redefining what it means to be a classical musician in the 21st century.
Adrian Cheng – The Art Visionary award honors the Founder of K11 Group and the Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO of New World Development for innovating culture in Asia by operating on the cutting edge of art and commerce.
Christina Gaw – The Real Estate Visionary award recognizes the groundbreaking work of the Managing Principal, Global Head of Capital Markets at Gaw Capital Partners. Gaw leads a thriving private equity real estate company and advocates for gender equality.
Masayuki Hyodo – The Business Visionary award recognizes the Chairman of Sumitomo Corporation, which is driving one of the largest companies in Japan to a future of a more sustainable, diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.
Dr. Richard Lee – The Medical Visionary honor celebrates the Cherng Family Director’s Chair of the Center for Integrative Oncology at the City of Hope, where he is transforming approaches to cancer treatment by combining Eastern and Western medicine.
The Olympic Movement Tribute will feature U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Chair Gene Sykes and two-time Olympic gold medalist Eileen Gu with several Olympians and Paralympians in attendance in anticipation of Paris 2024.The Tribute to the Japanese Players of the L.A. Dodgers will be represented by the team’s Manager Dave Roberts who was born in Okinawa, Japan and played for the team.
The evening’s events will be hosted once again by “ASSC MVP 2022 honoree” and emcee Kara Wang and will include performances by young talents Malea Emma and Allen Wang.
