The 2018 Asia Arts Game Changer Awards Hong Kong was a great success and raised funds for Asia Society’s global arts and culture initiatives. The event brought together major art collectors, artists, gallerists, and dignitaries from around the world to celebrate four game changers in the arts from Asia. This year Asia Society honored the artistic excellence and pioneering contributions to the arts of Subodh Gupta, Shirazeh Houshiary, Ju Ming, and Park Seo-Bo. Notable attendees included artists Liu Guosong, Sun Xun, and Charwei Tsai; museum directors and curators Bartomeu Barí, Johnson Chang, David Elliott, Bose Krishnamachari, Alexandra Munroe, and Miwako Tezuka; and art writers HG Masters, Barbara Pollock, and Ye Ying, among others. The lively auction of beautiful artworks inspired a group of Asia Society Trustees and friends of the Museum to come together and purchase one of the auction items, teamLab’s video work Gold Waves, above the asking price, and graciously donate the work to Asia Society Museum’s permanent collection in honor of the late Washington SyCip. Asia Society is thrilled and humbled by this gesture. The festive atmosphere and outpouring of support for Asia Society’s arts and culture programming promoted eager anticipation by all involved for another great edition in 2019!
