Asia Society Museum Appoints Michelle Yun as Curator, Modern and Contemporary Art

Michelle Yun has been appointed Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Asia Society Museum. Yun will manage the museum’s considerable initiatives in modern and contemporary visual art by Asian and Asian American artists. Asia Society Museum is recognized as a leader in the field of Asian contemporary art; its efforts in this area date back to the early 1990s. Yun will plan and implement the museum’s upcoming modern and contemporary exhibitions, as well as manage and build the Contemporary Art Collection, initiated in 2003.

Yun was most recently curator at Hunter College Art Galleries where she was responsible for multiple aspects of exhibition planning and management, including curatorial, publications, conservation, and public programming. Prior to joining Hunter College in 2011, Yun—who specializes in Chinese contemporary art and diaspora artists—served as a consulting curator at the Museum of China Cultural Arts (MoCCA) Beijing.

Yun also worked for a number of years at MoMA, including as curatorial assistant in the Department of Painting and Sculpture from 2003–2006.
