Asia Society Executive Vice President Tom Nagorski appeared on CNBC early this morning to discuss the two-day "informal" summit between U.S. President Barack Obama and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, which starts today at Sunnylands, the former Annenberg Estate, located in Rancho Mirage, California. Nagorski, speaking on a panel, described the meeting as being "absent the trappings of typical superpower summitry" and "a getting-to-know-you session, but a getting-to-know-you session with huge, huge stakes."
"[It's] an approach that maybe can begin to repair the … trust deficit which we all know is severe and serious," Nagorski said. "And six hours of, relatively speaking, unscripted conversations will probably go a long way, although these things are never really unscripted."
