International High School at Sharpstown was developed through the partnership of Houston Independent School District and Asia Society and is located on the campus of Sharpstown High School.  IHSS provides all students zoned to the Sharpstown feeder pattern an opportunity for a personalized learning environment that will prepare them for active roles as global citizens and will develop their international knowledge and skills and deepen their understanding of the world.  IHSS will prepare students for college by developing a college-bound culture, including a rigorous curriculum that requires all students no matter what previous level they have attained during middle school to take pre-advanced classes and Advanced Placement classes throughout their high school career.  In addition, dual credit courses will be offered during their junior and senior years.  Student must have a minimum of four years of foreign language, complete an internship, and complete community service projects.  IHSS will also provide students opportunities to make global learning connections across their content areas through in-class and field experiences as well as summer student exchange and travel programs.

School Highlights
As the first school to be involved in a school within a school program in the Houston Independent School District, IHSS is proud to be a model school that will be a leader in providing effective and focused instruction in a small classroom setting with a unique global curriculum.  While the school may be young, it has a large community support base with consistently high parent turnout for student orientation and open houses.  IHSS also has the first charango instrumental class (club) as a fine art enrichment in all of HISD.

School Voices
I came to IHSS because I heard the classes were advanced and the teachers would help me prepare to go to college.  I also want to travel and see the different parts of the world, and discover and learn about different cultures.  And, I believe IHSS will help me do this. -Student

Are there any more news about the International School at Sharptown? There is almost nothing about it? Even HISD does not have it listed as one of its schools in its website. When is IHSS going to update its website? Will it actually be a 6th to 12th school this coming 2011-12? Many already compare it with Carnegie Vanguard; will it be better known in the Houston community?
Please, responses are VERY welcome!

Yes the school will include middle school students. Very few changes were made. I have been to both high schools, and I rather stay at International, even though Carnegie is #1. International provides opportunities only if you look for them.

I'm currently a junior at this school and it's a good school better than any other in the area.
International High is a exemplary high school. The courses are really good and they have nice teachers and a great community. I love Model UN so much fun and opportunities to learn!
