With the Olympic Winter Games right around the corner, and national pride about to hit a fever pitch, we thought we'd get the conversation started with a pastime everybody can get behind: Eating! We just noticed this great series of images this morning (although it seems they've been around for at least a couple years) and we thought we'd share. Australian ad agency Whybin/TBWA, working with the Sydney International Food Festival, put together this collection of national flags composed of each country's traditional foods. We found eight flags representing the Asia-Pacific region: Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. Check them out in the gallery above. Interestingly, other than rice, star fruit is the only food to make an appearance on more than one flag.

So, how do you think they did? Did the foods chosen accurately reflect their respective countries? What would you have done differently? Tell us in a comment below.

Better yet, since most Asian countries aren't represented here, why not try to create your own food flags at home? Take a photo and share with us at [email protected]. We'd love to see what you come up with!
