School Tours

School tours, facilitated by the education department staff and volunteers, provide educationally rich interactive opportunities for students to learn about Asian art, culture, and traditions.

These free tours are open to all public, private, charter, alternative, and home schools. Visits take place on weekdays, Tuesday through Friday, for one to two hours.

All school tours and subsequent interactive projects are tethered to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district curriculum standards. They may include:

  • Docent-led tour of exhibitions in the Louisa Stude Sarofim Gallery
  • "Introduction to Asia” PowerPoint Presentation highlighting essential information about Asian art, culture, geography, and politics
  • Guided tour of the Texas Center and discussion of its unique architecture
  • Interactive projects based on the current exhibition (see attachment below for current options)

Application and School Tour Project Options

At least two weeks’ notice is required for school tours and additional advance notice is required for groups larger than 25. Please complete the school tour application. Schools may select one interactive project from the menu below for students to complete during their visit to Asia Society Texas Center.

Young Leaders' Institute

The Young Leaders’ Institute is a week-long summer program that gives local high school students a deeper understanding of political, economic, environmental, and health issues in Asia and better prepares them for leadership in a globally interdependent world. Students will improve their skills in critical thinking, oral presentation, and writing through role-play as advocates, diplomats, and policy advisors. Working in research teams alongside mentors, students will develop projected policies and solutions for the challenges facing Asia.

Camp dates: Summer 2016
Topics: Climate change, counterterrorism, energy geopolitics, and global health

For more information or to be added to the Young Leaders’ Institute email list, please contact Kelly Kleinkort at [email protected] or 713.496.9939.
