Building High-Quality Career Pathways
VIEW EVENT DETAILSLearning from Switzerland and the World
This interactive two-day workshop will allow participants to learn more about the Denver Public Schools CareerConnect model and how you can implement elements in your school district or organization. CareerConnect is a pathway of school- and work-based experiential learning opportunities for students that prepares them for life and work. Learn more about CareerResidency Youth Apprenticeship Program, a groundbreaking program of CareerConnect, deployed in a partnership between DPS and CareerWise Colorado, that provides high school students with apprenticeship opportunities and industry certifications while they pursue high school diplomas and earn college credits. Denver has based this new system on the Swiss apprenticeship model. Experts from around the world will also share lessons from their career and technical education (vocational) systems.
Attendees will learn about:
- What makes a high-quality career pathway?
- CareerResidency Youth Apprenticeship Programs
- How to engage parents and the community
- Teacher recruitment and training
- Dual credits/industry credentials
- Building a work-based learning continuum
In addition, there will be opportunities to visit student apprentices in their places of work (on Thursday, November 9).
Cost to attend the workshop is free. However, attendees must pay for their own travel costs. Space is limited; please register before October 1, 2017.
This event follows the 2017 Global Cities Education Network symposium. For more information, please contact Heather Singmaster, or learn more about the Global Cities Education Network.
