Shadow Puppetry Workshop
VIEW EVENT DETAILSWayang kulit, ancient shadow puppetry theater from Southeast Asia, is an art form recognized both for the beauty of its imagery and the richness of its epics passed down from generation to generation. Join us for an introduction to these shadow puppets, and craft your own based on Muslim traditions in the Kelantan region of western Malaysia. This workshop is held in conjunction with Arts Midwest’s Caravanserai program, presented in Houston through the Society for the Performing Arts. Asia Society Texas Center hosted a group of Malaysian percussionists in the fall and will be the venue for a wayang kulit performance on February 26.

Presentation and Discussion with Master Puppeteer: 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm
Shadow Puppet Creation: 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
