Viet Nguyen’s dark comedy and directorial debut, Crush the Skull, follows a loving couple, Ollie and Blair, who commit small crimes in order to pay the bills. When they confront difficulties on what is supposed to be their final job, Blair resorts to extreme measures, turning to her brother Connor, who has planned the perfect heist on a country home with his associate Riley. When the four young thieves arrive, they realize they have stumbled into the lair of a dangerous and mysterious criminal. Crush the Skull is the winner of the Nightfall Award at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival and an official selection at the 2015 Boston Asian American Film Festival, 2015 Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, 2015 San Diego Asian Film Festival, and 2015 Vancouver Asian American Film Festival.
This screening of Crush the Skull is part of the Houston Asian American Pacific Islander (HAAPI) Film Festival, which focuses on film art created by and spotlighting Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI). The Festival runs June 9-11 and 17-18 at multiple locations around Houston, and opening night will be hosted by Asia Society Texas Center. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with lead actor/screenwriter of Crush the Skull Chris Dinh and a VIP Reception with light bites and drinks. About the Speaker
Chris Dinh is an actor, writer, and producer. He co-wrote and acted in shorts such as Crush the Skull, Crush the Skull 2, and Things You Don’t Joke About among others. He was also a co-writer on a number of award-winning sketches, web-series, and films through his work with Wong Fu Productions where he currently develops content for over 2 million subscribers. Chris recently completed co-writing Wong Fu Production’s first feature film, Everything Before Us.
