The Full Circle Tour: dj Cheb i Sabbah and Riffat Sultana & Party
On a balmy Southern Californian evening in 2003, dj, producer and self-proclaimed "musical adventurer" Cheb i Sabbah joined forces with Pakistani Qawwali ensemble Riffat Sultana & Party along with British Indian dhol player Mitch Hyare for an extraordinary evening of electronic beats and hypnotic melodies. Memories of that concert continue to speak to those lucky enough to be there. That same band of sonic explorers will gather once again to mark Eid al Fitr and to celebrate the opening of Asia Society Texas Center.

About the Performers
A dynamic and versatile singer, Riffat Sultana performs everything from devotional Sufi songs to acoustic fusion. Daughter of the great Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, she is first woman in her family of master musicians — which stretches back over 500 years and 11 generations — to sing in public. Her life took a dramatic change when she turned a family concert tour in the United States into an extended stay. Sultana began spreading her wings with a series of unobtrusive concerts in the South Asian community. Things didn't stay quiet for long, and she has gone on to perform around the world with everyone from Quincy Jones to Ben Harper.
With seven recordings on the Six Degrees label, internationally renowned dj Cheb i Sabbah is a cultural ambassador whose bhakti (devotion) to the spiritual essence of music takes him, and his audiences, down interconnected sonic, mystical, and esoteric paths. Add Sultana’s striking voice, and the night promises to be one to remember.
