Family Day: Southeast Asia
VIEW EVENT DETAILSCelebrate the arts, cultures, and musical traditions of Southeast Asia. Activities will center around themes from Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Please check back regularly as we confirm art projects, demonstrations, and performances.
Art Projects
Activities will take place from 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Community Landscape
Craft the façade of a street scene in Singapore’s famous Little India neighborhood, the renowned Angkor Wat in western Cambodia, the futuristic Petronas Towers in Malaysia, or the historic Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar. Recommended for ages 7 and older.
Filipino Gold Adornments
Shape your own golden bracelets, crowns, and pendants based on the craftsmanship of classical Filipino goldsmiths. Recommended for ages 6 and older.
Southeast Asian Weavings
Southeast Asian Weavings Use motifs from the region to create decorative paper weavings. Recommended for ages 4 and older.
Woodblock Printing
Design a unique pattern inspired by batik from Indonesia and Malaysia or tell a visual story based on woodblock folk artwork from Vietnam. Recommended for ages 6 and older.
Performances and Demonstrations
Balinese and Javanese Dances by Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia | 2:30 pm
Enjoy traditional dances from the Indonesian islands of Bali and Java. Recommended for all ages.
Traditional Dances by Keito Academy of Ethno-Cultural Performing Arts | 2:00 pm
The Austin-based group returns to present a medley of Filipino and island dances inspired by aboriginal customs. Recommended for all ages.
