VIEW EVENT DETAILSPartnerships & Collaborations
Busan Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra performs both traditional Korean music and contemporary work by some of the country’s leading composers.
Traditional pieces include Haegeum sanjo, a work for stringed instrument and single drum noted for its masterful variety of rhythms and melodies, and Samulnori, which combines the sound of two gongs and two drums. The contemporary works include Boating Song, composer Won Il’s modern rendering of a traditional Gyeonggi Province boating song, and Hong Dong-gi’s The Spirit of Goguryeo, which combines traditional Korean and Western musical forms.
The concert forms a part of the visit to Houston by the Vice Mayor of Busan and is co-presented by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Houston. Busan (formerly spelled “Pusan”) is South Korea’s second largest city and largest port.
