Asia Society Creation Station: Southeast Asian Weaving
VIEW EVENT DETAILSEducation
Stop by Asia Society Texas Center monthly on select Saturdays between 1:00 and 3:00 pm for an art-making activity designed just for you. Explore traditions such as washi scrolls and remembrance poppies from Japan, and intricate weaving patterns from Indonesia and Uzbekistan.
Hands on activities for November 16 will explore the art of weaving and patterning, inspired by Southeast Asian works and photographs from Weavers’ Stories from Island Southeast Asia and Between History and New Horizons: Photographs of Women, Work, and Community in Laos. Led by the Texas Center's educator-at-large Vehishta Kaikobad, who has more than twenty years of experience teaching arts and culture to Houstonians of all ages, the crafts will have practical applications, such as designing a colorful new mobile phone case or teaching young visitors how everyday math affects weaving techniques.
Families and children of all ages are welcome to stop by and participate in these free events.
