About the Exhibitions
We Chat: Dialogue in Contemporary Chinese Art
WeChat is a mobile messaging app, developed in China, with more than 600 million users worldwide. Combining the functions of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, WeChat has become the primary means of communication for members of China’s younger generation, now living and working throughout the world. The exhibition We Chat: Dialogue in Contemporary Chinese Art explores how artists who were born after China’s Cultural Revolution are challenging the traditional notions of Chinese identity. Featured are works by CHEN Wei, GUO Xi, JIN Shan, Pixy Yijun LIAO, LIU Chuang, LU Yang, MA Qiusha, SHI Zhiying, SUN Xun, and Bo WANG.
Artist Yuriko Yamaguchi uses materials such as resins, wire, wood, flax, and other materials to create large-scale abstract sculptures that resonate uniquely in the spaces in which they are installed. Her spontaneous responses to architectural structures introduce a tension between the built environment and our lived experience of such spaces, emphasizing movement, color, and the play of light, which alters as the day progresses.
