Co-Authors Offer Perspectives on Japan–South Korea Relations
HOUSTON, August 27, 2015 — Asia Society Texas Center hosted Scott Snyder of the Council for Foreign Relations and Brad Glosserman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies to discuss their recent book, The Japan-South Korea Identity Clash: East Asian Security and the United States. The book is the culmination of over a decade of research, in which the authors assert that when it comes to Japan, South Korea, and the U.S., “1+1+1=5.” Glosserman had several recommendations that he admits are “forward leaning in an obscenely optimistic way”, including the “leadership approach” in which the conversation between the three nations moves to a “moral dialogue in which the nations focus on a new treaty of friendship which transcends issues of national leadership.”
