Asia Society Texas Center Selected for OKRA Charity Program

Proceeds to Benefit Education for Children and Families
(Jeff Fantich and Monica Villarreal)

HOUSTON, June 1, 2014 — Asia Society Texas Center is honored to have been chosen as one of four non-profit finalists competing to win one hundred percent of Organized Kollaboration on Restaurant Affairs' (OKRA's) proceeds during the month of June 2014. Funds received will be used to support the Texas Center's educational programs for children and families.

What is OKRA?

OKRA Charity Saloon is a nonprofit bar that supports local charities through a monthly voting system.

Location and Hours
924 Congress Avenue, Houston, 77002
Open daily, 4:00 pm – 2:00 am
Happy Hour weekdays, 4:00 – 6:30 pm
No cover

Please drink responsibly. OKRA is less than a minute-walk from the Preston METRORail platform.

How does it work?

For each food item or drink purchased (non-alcoholic included), guests receive one vote that they may cast for one of four charities selected by OKRA Members. The charity with the most votes at the end of the month receives the next month's proceeds. Previous donations range from $15,000 to $42,500!

How can I help?

Visit OKRA as many times as you can during the month of June and vote for Asia Society Texas Center. We host weekly happy hours there on Wednesdays; please join us if you can:

Encourage family, friends, and colleagues to host their birthday parties, happy hours, gatherings, and meals at OKRA, and ask them to vote for Asia Society.

Spread the word about this friendly competition and why you believe we deserve your support: @OKRAFried @AsiaSocietyTX #voteASTC

Who are the other June charities?

Three other worthy charities are in the running: Playworks Texas, Voices Breaking Boundaries, and Theatre Under the Stars.
