After decades of relative isolation, the nuclear deal - which went into effect in early 2016 - seemed to signal the start of a stronger re-integration of Iran into the global community. But with a more skeptical incoming US administration and its own presidential elections coming up in May, the future path of the country and its effect on the region look uncertain.
At its inaugural Salon, Asia Society Switzerland will provide different perspectives on the society, politics and everyday life in contemporary Iran. Borrowing from the tradition of literary salons, this event will allow guests to engage in informal conversations with different speakers. The conversations will happen in parallel.
The event is hosted by Finn Canonica, editor-in-chief of Das Magazin. Speakers include Philippe Welti, former Swiss Ambassador to Iran; Sanam Vakil, Head of Chatham House’s Iran program, and others to be announced soon.
