'Spirited Away' on Park Avenue

family benefit 2009

NEW YORK, April 27, 2009 - The Asia Society held its 2nd Annual Family Benefit at its Park Avenue headquarters, a very special event for families drawing together elements from Asia's diverse cultures. This year's theme was Spirited Away—Enchanted Animals of Asia.

Accordingly, Asia Society headquarters was magically transformed into a wonderland of enchanted animals, featuring creative and educational hands-on activities for children of all ages, live music and dance performances, a Gallery Hunt for animals though the current Asia Society Museum exhibition Asian Journeys, and of course delicious pan-Asian cuisine.

Through an enchanted forest filled with Asian animals both real and imaginary, over 250 guests discovered a new way to share a love of Asian culture with family and friends. Children throughout the building were mesmerized by the Chinese puppet theater, tabla playing, shadow puppets, calligraphy and origami hands-on learning, and creative wood block printing.

Designed for families with children ranging in age from toddlers to pre-teens, the Spirited Away Family Benefit event helped to support year-round family programming at Asia Society.
