2010 Honorees

Mukesh D. Ambani
Chairman, Reliance Industries Limited
Global Vision Award

Mukesh D. Ambani is the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited. He initiated Reliance's backward integration journey from textiles into polyester fibres and further into petrochemicals, petroleum refining, and oil and gas exploration and production. He led the creation of the world's largest grassroots petroleum refinery at Jamnagar, India.

In 2009 Mr. Ambani was ranked the 5th best performing CEO in the world by the Harvard Business Review and RIL was ranked the 15th most innovative company in the world in a survey conducted by Business Week and the BCG.

Jeffrey R. Immelt
Chairman and CEO, General Electric Company
Global Leadership Award

Jeffrey R. Immelt is the ninth chairman of GE, a post he has held since 2001. Mr. Immelt has held several global leadership positions since coming to GE in 1982, including roles in GE's Plastics, Appliance, and Medical businesses. In 1989 he became an officer of GE, joined the GE Capital Board in 1997, and was appointed president and chief executive officer in 2000.

Named one of the "World's Best CEOs" three times by Barron's, Mr. Immelt is also a member of The Business Council and is on the board of the New York Federal Reserve Bank.

New York Philharmonic
Cultural Ambassador Award and Performance

Alan Gilbert became Music Director of the New York Philharmonic in September 2009, the first native New Yorker to hold the post, ushering in what New York magazine called “a moment of metamorphosis and continuity." The Philharmonic, America’s oldest symphony orchestra, and one of the oldest in the world, the New York Philharmonic has always championed the music of its time, giving world and US premieres of works from Beethoven to Tan Dun, and has released nearly 2,000 recordings since 1917.

The New York Philharmonic is renowned around the globe, having toured since 1930, and it enjoys a particularly rich relationship with Asia as both a destination and in the heritage of its Music Director and many current musicians. On February 26, 2008, the Orchestra gave a historic concert in Pyongyang, DPRK, which was broadcast live internationally. In October 2009 the Orchestra made its debut in Vietnam, performing two concerts at the Hanoi Opera House as part of the Asian Horizons tour, Alan Gilbert's first as a Music Director.

Watch: Lorin Maazel leads the New York Philharmonic in the national anthem of the United States of America as the concert in the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre begins, on February 26, 2008.
