The Williamsburg Conference 2006

The Asia Society hosted 34th Williamsburg Conference from May 18-20, 2006, as part of Asia Society’s 50th anniversary. 

Referring to the conference’s theme: 20/20: Focus on the Future, the participants anticipated what the future and its challenges hold for Asia and its relations with the U.S. 

Fifty one delegates from fifteen countries debated the contemporary affairs of the Asia-Pacific.  Among the issues discussed were Asian economics and the global trade agreement, the global nature of energy, and cooperating on energy security. 

Key speakers included: Yu Myung- Hwan, Vice Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Korea, C. Fred Bergsten, Director of Institute for International Economics, Lincoln Chen, Director, Global Equity Initiative at Harvard University, Harry Harding, Director of Research and Analysis, Eurasia Group, Carla A. Hills, Chairman & CEO, Hills & Company, International Consultants, Dennis Wilder, Acting Senior Director for East Asian Affairs, National Security Council.
