Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra to Perform at Carnegie Hall
The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Olivier Ochanine is embarking on a historic concert at the Carnegie Hall in New York on June 18, 2016. This is the first time a Filipino orchestra will perform in the United States as part of the celebrations of the 70th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the United States of America and on the occasion of the 118th Anniversary of Philippine independence. Conducted by Principal Conductor Olivier Ochanine, the concert also features pianist Cecile Licad and violinist Diomedes Saraza, both internationally known Filipino musicians.
The PPO was established in 1973 and has performed with various renowned conductors in the world. Among them are Mendi Rodan, Piero Gamba, and Enrique Batis. They also perform alongside world-class foreign and Filipino artists such as Judith Engel, Anthony Camden, Cecile Licad, and Lea Salonga.
The concert aims to bring pride to Filipinos living in the United States, and to celebrate the Filipino spirit through music. Proceeds from the concert will go to a housing project of the Philippine Disaster Relief Corporation, Inc. for the survivors of typhoon Yolanda.
