Country Spotlight: The Life and Times of Korean CuisineVIEW EVENT DETAILS
With Chefs Nick Yoon and JiYoung Park
Join ASNC for its inaugural Country Spotlight Series event. Opening the event will be soprano Yoongeong Lee, followed by Chef Nick Yoon of Surisan SF and Chef JiYoung Park of Park's Kitchen who will share their unique Californian approach to Korean cuisine. The chefs will discuss their culinary journey from Korea to California, share their ideas about how Korean cuisine is evolving, and provide a tasting for some of the unique dishes they have created that are influenced by California ingredients and reflect the Korean emphasis on nutritional balance and the health properties of food. Chef Yoon and Chef Park will collaborate on a one-of-a-kind menu that will feature Korean Kimchi Dumpling with Bonito Soup, Kimchi Shakshuka with Potato Gnocchi, Savory Buckwheat Pancake, Rainbow Shrimp Salad, and Omija Hwachae (Korean traditional fruit punch).
This event is being organized in partnership with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea on the occasion of Korea Week.

ASNC's Country Spotlight Series provides a view of a selected Asian country through presentations on literature, art, music, and food. Beyond standard narratives, the Country Spotlight Series explores a country through the voices of its people on topics outside the mainstream. The series will shine a light on emerging food trends, traditional music not heard outside of its country of origin, authors who explore quiet corners of their culture and history, and more.
Our inaugural Country Spotlight focuses on Korean cuisine, and moves past kimchi and bulgogi to introduce creative Korean cuisine to our audience.
