Asia's Challenged Democracies
VIEW EVENT DETAILSREGISTRATION FULL, Members Only
Nearly 60 percent of the world’s population lives in Asia – with 40 percent concentrated in China and India alone. Over the past two decades, economic growth in India, Myanmar, and Thailand has helped lift millions of people out of poverty. Yet, despite this progress these countries continue to face daunting challenges. Prospects for political reform remain constrained by widespread corruption, lack of accountability and transparency, and ineffective systems of justice. Further, the closing space for civil society across Asia continues to limits citizens’ voice and participation in the political process. Join experts from The Asia Foundation’s country offices in India, Myanmar, and Thailand for a dynamic panel discussion on the current state of democratic governance and future prospects for political reform in these countries.
This event is members only, very limited seating.
