Last night ChinaFile, the online magazine of Asia Society's Center of U.S.-China Relations, invited two Chinese filmmakers from the News and Documentary program at the New York University Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institue for a special screening of their films. Siyi Chen's film Emergency Room is an inside look at a second-tier city hospital in China where doctors are overworked and underpaid. One Way Home, directed by Qingzi Fan, follows two Tibetan students that move to Shanghai to attend a government-sponsored boarding school exclusively for Tibetan students.
Following the screenings, Chen and Fan were joined on stage for by Marcia Rock, the director of the News and Documentary program, and Jonathan Landreth, the managing editor of ChinaFile, for a discussion.
