For Gail, a mixed-race single mother who loses her only child and her mother in the span of two years, all she has left is a hard won career at a global investment bank. Torn between New York, Hong Kong and Shanghai, life rapidly goes into free fall for this woman with a complicated past, who was once so sure of her direction in life, and who now sees no clear path for herself. Short listed for the Man Asian Literary Prize. In conversation with editor Anna Sherman.

Xu Xi, an award-winning fiction writer and essayists, has also edited several literary anthologies including Fifty-Fifty: New Hong Kong Writing. She currently teaches at Vermont College of Fine Arts and is Writer-in-Residence at City University of Hong Kong, where she founded the first international MFA program that specializes in Asian writing in English.

Anna Sherman is an Asia-based freelance editor. Her work for Haven Books includes the world poetry anthology Not a Muse and Xu Xi's Habit of a Foreign Sky.

Co-sponsored by the Asian American Writers Workshop. Followed by a book sale and signing.
