VIEW EVENT DETAILSNEW YORK, June 9, 2016 — The Honorable Carrie Lam, the chief secretary for administration in Hong Kong, discusses the territory's "One Country, Two Systems" relationship with mainland China in an appearance at Asia Society in New York. (24 min., 16 sec.)
LUNCH AVAILABLE FROM 11:30AM
PROGRAM BEGINS AT 12:00PM
Asia Society is pleased to host a special conversation with the Honorable Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong, and distinguished public servant with over 35 years of experience in the special administrative region. Mrs. Lam assists Hong Kong’s Chief Executive C.Y. Leung as the highest ranking official in his government, having held various top positions in Hong Kong covering major policy areas including constitutional and electoral reform, development, district administration, arts and culture, and social welfare.
Mrs. Lam will speak to Asia Society’s audience on the status of “One Country, Two Systems”—the arrangement that allows Hong Kong to enjoy a certain level of political and economic autonomy from the Mainland —at a time when some have expressed doubts on the future of the arrangement. She will discuss the latest developments in Hong Kong, the recent challenges the city faces, and how bilateral ties can be further enhanced between Hong Kong and the U.S.
