The Asia Society is pleased to host H.E. Mr. Truong Tan Sang, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the normalization of relations between the U.S. and Vietnam. On this occasion, President Truong Tan Sang will speak on U.S.-Vietnam relations, other regional issues such as the role of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership in the evolving regional architecture, as well as recent developments pertaining to maritime disputes in the South China Sea. President Truong Tan Sang will also discuss ongoing domestic market reforms, as the country continues to seek foreign direct investment, and an issue of global importance — climate change.
Please join us for an address by President Truong Tan Sang, followed by a special discussion with Tom Nagorski, Asia Society Executive Vice President. A question and answer session with the audience will follow the discussion.
President Truong Tan Sang was elected by the 13th National Assembly of Vietnam in 2011. He is a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Previously, he served as the Standing Member of the Party’s Secretariat, Head of the Party Central Commission on Economic Affairs, and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. He holds a Bachelor’s in Law.
Tom Nagorski is the Executive Vice President of the Asia Society. He joined Asia Society following a three-decade career in journalism — having served most recently as Managing Editor for International Coverage at ABC News. Nagorski was the recipient of eight Emmy awards and the Dupont Award for excellence in international coverage, as well as a fellowship from the Henry Luce Foundation.
