FIELD MEETING Take 5: Thinking Projects
VIEW EVENT DETAILSThe Annual Signature Forum of Asia Contemporary Art Week (ACAW) 2017
As an Asia Contemporary Art Week Consortium Partner, Asia Society is pleased to host the fifth iteration of ACAW’s annual signature forum FIELD MEETING Take 5: Thinking Projects on October 14, 2017. More than 400 U.S.-based curators, scholars, and museum professionals gather to partake in a theatrical and experimental gathering of back-to-back performances, lecture-performances, and lively discussions by over 25 extraordinary artists and arts professionals as an extension of their most compelling projects and activities. The second day of the two-day forum will be held at SVA Theatre on October 15, 2017.
As a meticulously curated showcase of people, ideas, and research, FIELD MEETING transcends the conventions of educational symposia and creates direct access to a diverse group of practitioners. FIELD MEETING provides a rare opportunity for the public to witness the energetic presence and distinct perspectives of artists and thinkers. At this dynamic gathering, broad-spectrum subjects, culturally nuanced materials, concepts, and projects are tested and reflected upon collectively. Given the lack of artistic representation and historical contextualization of Asian contemporary art within the vast network of American art and academic institutions, FIELD MEETING facilitates meaningful exchange and encourages lasting relationships among artists, arts professionals, and organizations based in the United States and Asia that can lead to future collaborations.
FIELD MEETING crosses over the disciplines of visual arts, art history, science, social history, architecture, mythology, film, music, folklore, and subculture. This year, in an attempt to deconstruct the term “project,” the presentations will reflect on unlikely pairings of topics such as superheroes and pageants, feminism as ecological consciousness, Lenin’s rendezvous with Jesus, telepathic animal communications, links between Chinese ink painting and climate change, cosmic speculations, the transformation of ancient symbols in the digital age, and much more.
